Warm-up thingamajig ideas

1. 'Dressing-up.' We could have a dressing-up box of clothes associated with war, freedom, love, music etc... On entry people will be asked to choose garments from the box according to how they would like to represent themselves in the debate... Or we could assign garments to people as they arrive and they can chose to remove items that they think portray a message they are opposed to.

2. 'Kissing Windows'. We split the party in two. One half stay inside the gallery the other half go outside onto the street. Both sides choose a partner to kiss through the gallery window for a duration of 10 mins. Then the debate begins.

3. 'Face Paints' pretty much self-explanatory. Hearts, flowers, hippie stuff.

Please get back to me with your thoughts and ideas. These are very much quick off the top of my head ideas. Lizzie has some ideas too but I have yet to discuss them with her.

Speak soon,

Esther

Hi Esther
Like your ideas. Particularly the kissing windows one. I think we should do that - only thing is those people who have to go outside get to kiss a well dirty window covered in traffic fumes etc. Perhaps we should specify 'no tongues'? Would you be prepared to 'lead' that activity? Maybe we could just do that all night? Only joking!

Haha!

Yeah i like that idea too, although i realise it might well be a bit awkward. It would be imperative to do it beforehand though as otherwise it might just look like we've turned up at a war debate to go on the pull.

i like the dressing up idea too although i think you'd have to ensure that the emphasis was more on what the argument of each person is rather than how good the costume is. Although that would be great, of course.

When would this warm-up be happening?

I suggest the warm-up happens at the very beginning - first 10 mins. With the dressing up idea we could dress people as they enter and the 'warm-up activity' is taking off/swapping clothing that people deem unsuitable to the delivery of their argument/position.

So I suppose the decision is between dressing up and kissing windows. What is the general inclination here? I envisage both to be a precursor to the debate; a bit of a stunt to draw people in maybe. I am happy to lead the activity with Lizzie. For dressing up I will need people to donate items for the evening. I have a selection of wears to add and I am sure Tom, you do too.

Also, i am concerned that the activity might look frivolous or even mocking when placed next to war photography. Would you ensure that it looked like the product of a reasoned debate?
